Array ( [sid] => 129459 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Challenger [time] => 2006-12-15 21:07:33 [hometext] => The recent film Babel inspired this piece the director (Alejandro González Iñárritu) takes one back from different languages threaded by a gun to an original place of awe and silence. In my opinion it was excellent. [bodytext] =>

'To slip the surly bonds...'
and speak with God
climb and petition
the Lord with excellence.
"Come, let us build for ourselves a city,
a tower whose top will reach into heaven,
and let us make for ourselves a name
for otherwise we will be scattered abroad
over the face of the whole earth."

Year after year, life after life
the walls aspire and rise
higher than any before;
Just enough
to beckon His attention
as specks of hand blown dust in his image
He sees our effort and laments:
"Behold, they are one people
and they all have the same language
(of gestures, vision and wit).
And this is what they began to accomplish,
now nothing which they purpose to do
will be impossible for them..."
"Come, let Us go down to tremble
and confuse their language,
so that they will not understand
one another's speech."
delivering a blow to Himself
their worst fears and striving
made manifest.

In disgust or temperance
hath the Lord God wrought
His Enemies bidding,
surpassing, him by
destroying unity?

As Moses penned Genesis
in the fashion of
Egyptian upbringing
he had a deep insight
as to what was needed.
To have a people of rabble and
nomad come together in shared identity
Khabiru became Hebrew for which
One God will follow...
Previous to this
gods were in such places
trees, rocks and idols.

Slaves to poverty
identity as the downcast
the thronging fringe,
found brilliant answers
that have lasted these last
5 thousand years.
Today we think YHWH means
'I am that I am'
but as individual
identity was still developing
the true meaning and impact,
glue to survival,
was knowing YHWH is
'I am Doing
what Needs to Be Done.'

The Tower in myth,
a pointed symbol
magical metaphor
of arrogance,
broken yet re-made
civilizations with
clay heads
gold tax-payers
measured by profits
and loss our union
displaced,
shards in war,
just waiting.

Re-uniting in abstraction
computers and science
in languages both
binary and mathematics
for the same is still true
now nothing
for which they purpose to do
will be impossible
for them to reach.

" If you smile at me, I will understand...
'cause that is something, everbody, everywhere does in the same language"

~Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

This was my first reaction, but this is sooo incredibly deep, I find my second, third & fourth reactions not quite as easily reconcilable with popular lyrics...WOW!!

It all comes down to this for me, we are all one, we are all god. No matter what language, what GOD, what color etc etc etc....we are one. If all could realize that and be able to tap into their inner selves, maybe healing could begin. I like how you make me think, man. I like how you think. Wonderful, intense write.
Peace and hugs,
Laura
