Dear class, my class
Welcome to your first day
I want to cover some things first so put those textbooks away
If you could give me your attention I’d like to begin
With a message that carries from start into fin

You see what they teach here and what is out there
Is way out of boundary it aint even near
But if they knew I told you that I’d of turned in my two weeks
Cause the truth isn’t sweet, it’s dead and it reeks

See I’ve seen a few things though I don’t like to brag
On this curving life driveway running straight into drag
Bout hate and love, communication and pain
Hustling through thunder and walking through rain
There are things you will see that’ll turn your soul black
And dead dangers that’ll greet you with pleasant attack
Cause out on the streets it isn’t bout a college degree
It’s bout churning the butter and paying the fee

Ask the poor widow whose hand shakes so true
Just what is it she wants and what’s in it for you
And button your jacket, don’t catch a cold
While it’s around your sweet shoulders you’ll want it to hold

At night you’ll hear sirens they’ll ring and disperse
You’ll find death is a desire disguised as a curse
But in time you won’t wish it unless you’re alone
And no matter how old, you’ll say you’ve not grown

So kids, my kids
You might have heard
Or read what is written as fact of the word
But history is written by those who remain
Who’ve taken men an reduced them for ball and for chain
They’ve taught you their lies for lack of question
Cause they feel you’re not all made for inspection
Into what it is that was and what we find now
Whose been burnt to the dust and exactly how
No, they’ll keep that hushed up and focus on trivial things
Like pie graphs, road maps, and how a register rings
And any placement you put into what could have been
Will be put to rest never to be brought up again

But that’s the way it goes so just clench your fist
And write away creation, cause truth’s in the wrist
See the colleagues of mine were all given the same
They learned to be docile, demented and tame
They threw away, like you will, what rebel they knew
Once withered great knowledge is now wasted and through

Now students, my students
I know what your thinking
That beat heart is dropping, it’s falling, it’s sinking
Well let me tell you, that in time you’ll find
It will never be steady nor set to some grind
Love’s going to get you; you can take that from me
Make you into people you swore never to be
Boys you’ll find someone who will lower your shield
Till nothing is hidden all virtues revealed
And girls some day someone’s going to take advantage of you
You’ll try to pull away like the fly but find yourself sunken in glue
Glue, you’ll become accustomed to and you’ll sit frozen in its slime
And not leave till it’s hardened and crinkled in time

The devil, my children, is alive and is real
Not in some mystical myth, he’s not warped or surreal
He’s all around and you’ll probably play games by his hand
Till you’re a thousand above and wanting to land
And God, though I’ve heard His name in context of all
Will be right beside you in that thousand-foot fall
You’ll curse Him, deny him, confuse him as fake
Then take him, embrace him, for your own soul’s sake

And your soul that you’ve never really had the pleasure to meet
Will find it’s self in limbo at the back of the line in a seat

Oh class, dear class
I’ll have you writing out numbers soon enough
The tests will be hard, the days long and rough
But what it is I won’t tell you is that it’s all up to fate
And it can ram into you or show up ten minutes late
It’s about attitude, courage, what’s right and what’s wrong
What sits right there still and what goes along
It’s bout taking the moment, escaping your fear
Diving into dark waters where nothing is clear
Obeying your desires and denying their touch
Throwing away what’s needed and keeping wants at a clutch
But enough about that I have a salary to make

And as I said before, I’ve got a mask too I am fake
Just wanted to release a warning before they bud in
Before I find my self on that trail again
So that’s it my dear class, my message is done
