They gave you back your freedom and your name.
Since then I’ve been making reparations
Seems I got half our things but all the blame.

I’ve seen love and hate live in the same house
And I’ve learned the line between is paper thin
And two people fell from love once they crossed it
And got hurt so bad they never fell back in.

Now I’m ringing in the New Year with this old guitar
Watching moonlit skies fill up with falling snow
And alone without you here
I made it through this year
That’s one down…and a lifetime to go.
That’s one down…and a lifetime to go.

On Valentines Day I drove by our old place
I thought that I might catch you there at home
But I just left them roses on your door step
I saw his car outside and knew you weren’t alone

I spent our anniversary at the old cafe
On some stool like a man down on his luck
In July I watched fireworks light the horizon
From that back road where we parked in my old truck

Now I’m ringing in the New Year with this old guitar
Watching moonlit skies fill up with falling snow
And alone without you here
Somehow I made it through this year
That’s one down…and a lifetime to go.
That’s one down…and a lifetime to go.

So the kids spent Thanksgiving Day at your house
And they spent most of their Christmas Eve with me
And they laughed when I held them up by their pajamas
So they could touch the Christmas angel on the tree.

My friends say I should put this all behind me
And tonight we ought to paint this whole town red
But I knew that my heart just wasn’t ready
So I stayed home and watched TV instead

And now I’m ringing in the New Year with this old guitar
Watching moonlit skies fill up with falling snow
And alone without you here
Somehow I made it through this year
That’s one down…and a lifetime to go.
That’s one down…and a lifetime to go.

I like your songs. Read most of your posts, and they all seem so heartfelt, and sad, that well, the reader can't help but feel your pain. Hope 2007 is a good year,
