We used to be so close,
Share every hope and thought.
Now we've grown apart,
Did we give it our best shot?

I try to shrug it off,
When they say that I'm naive.
But now the time has come,
And I'm starting to believe.

You came to be my best friend,
When I wanted so much more.
Now I would give anything
If that we could restore.

I want you in my life,
To be there like before.
To care about my thoughts
And push me to be more.

Always you were there for me
In every little way.
But now you hardly know me
And that's tough for me to say

To think I've lost my best friend,
Is to admit defeat.
It's not a thing I want to do,
To say that I've been beat.

Tell me all your thoughts and dreams,
The way you used to do.
I want us to be close again
I hope you want that too.

Now that we have grown apart,
There are miles to restore.
So say that you will walk with me
And open that closed door.

I want you as my best friend,
To hug me when I'm sad.
To share with me the good times
And tell me when you're mad.

There are things you know about me,
That other do not know.
Things that I can trust you with
And know you will not show.

Although there have been times,
When I didn't think you cared,
You'd always show me otherwise
And guide me from despair.

It's you that understands
My hopes, my dreams, my fears.
So why is it so tough for me
To let you see my tears?

Can you reassure me
That we'll never drift apart?
Or should I just let go
And release you from my heart.

As you sit here beside me
It makes me so sad.
'Cause I sit here and think
Of the love that we had.

We've had good times together
And been through so much
Should we throw it away
And completely lose touch?

I don't want that to happen,
I want to hang on.
But if it's gonna be like this,
I'll move right along.

I don't want you to leave me,
In such a quick haste.
But I don't want to wait,
Life's too precious to waste.

The hugs that you lend me
Always comfort my fears.
But some things you do
Only bring me to tears.

Do you want what we had
A short while ago?
Or do you want to forget
And not let it show?

The path to love is long.
Go ahead and take my hand.
Together we will walk,
Leave our footprints in the sand.

FRIENDS FOREVER?

We used to be so close,
Share every hope and thought.
Now we've grown apart,
Did we give it our best shot?

I try to shrug it off,

This was a truley beautiful and inspiring poem. There were tears in my eyes, and it left me speechless. I am sure if your friend reads this, he will understand. Absolutely lovely!

Been there. Sometimes you've just gotta let go. Remember, whenever the universe takes something from you, it always replaces it with something better. It took me years to learn that and to let go, and I'm so glad I did, because what I got in return was so much better and healthier.
