But it’s been a long time
Since I was anyone to you

And I still bleed
And I still cry
And I still wonder
If this pain will ever die

How can scars fade
if they never heal?
How can I feel better
if this pain is all I feel?

I haven’t smiled
In three years
And the only light in my eye
Is reflected off my tears

But you still shine
In my memory
And when I close my eyes
Your face is all I see

I know now
You’re never coming back
So for all eternity
There will be something that I lack

My happiness
And any joy
I’ve been discarded
Just another useless toy

This scar won’t heal
And this pain won’t too
Because it’s been a long time

The title drew me in to read, and the emotion expressed kept me reading. Can't say that I have ever grieved a loss for so long but the rawness of feeling like a non-entity to someone never really goes away.

At first I thought you were speaking
of a person but now I'm not sure if
you were'nt refering to an actual toy.
I see that this is a departure from your
other style of writing. I think you do them
both well. I enjoyed the first and sixth
stanza. Truly , Doug
