Her hopes and faith in him he’ll lift.
Just so that he, for some sick game,
Can rape and abuse her and leave her lame

A petal falls, her poor heart breaks
His words and beatings are so much to take.
His false talk of love, his lies and hate
The beatings and shouting. The pain and rape.

A soft tear drops from a weary eye
She brings her knees close and begins to cry
Her wounds so harsh. Her soul, so weak.
Peace and relief is all she seeks.

The angel of death now draws near.
His presence and purpose she does not fear.
She closes her eyes and accepts his embrace
He wipes her tears as they leave this place.

The years of abuse fade into the past
The release she longed for had come at last.
They’ll find her body some time the next day
They’ll arrest him and throw him in prison to pay.

But what of the lady, now lifeless and cold?
What of her dreams that would never be told?
Why did he hurt her and show such hate?
How could he allow this to be her fate?

A tear drop falls, a lady dies
In a world of hate, a world of lies.
Such violence these days, so many that die.
I just have one question and that is “Why?”

Why? This is a question most of us have not received an answer to. Why do heart get broken? Why are so many so careless with the heart? Why are we in a seemingly 80 to 20 percent mix, with the majority being careless and the 20 longing to be cared for. To be at the very least appreciated for what we feel for the other 80 percent?

Your poem touches this reader tremendously. It is deeply saddening and almost brings a grown man to tears. Tears, because this is such a sad reality. Even more sad is that fifty percent of that rare twenty percent will settle for less than they deserve in order to quit dealing with the pain caused by searching endlessly for a mate who shares the sentiments within. Only to realize later in life that it is more painful to be someone you are not completely in love with, than it is to be alone and continuing to hope that love is out there. Trust me, it is out there. Trust me, it is harder than Chinese math to find. If you are worthy and lucky enough to find it, you will.

What a tremendous write. One of the better poems I have read in months outside of those authors that I read regularly. Work like this will make me a fan, and I will be looking for more of your work. Well done, deeply sad, and definitely poetic at it's core! Keep your passion and your words will send readers and poets alike into thought, and maybe little by little your world will get better. At least this would be my wish for you!

BRAVO!

I can not help but to comment on this poem. How insightful. You are speaking for many women out there, many women feeling the pain that you describe.

Keep writing,
Naomi
