Dear Sophie.

Close your eyes against the cold world.
Retreat into the grey hours,
Into your perfect garden
Where the Sun dazzles nearly too brightly
And your Mummy and Daddy take you
By the hands one last time.
Always one last time.

This is a limbo world,
Startlingly real in the moment,
But on waking –
Little more than pastel landscapes
Melting in the rain.

Damp pillows greet the half-light of dawn
As reality draws you away.

Still you always find a smile
For the world outside.
Unfalteringly brave,
Even in the fragility of Autumn
When all the leaves cluster
Round your feet.

The heart is never the same,
No matter how old you are.
But in the darkest and brightest
Of your days
Always remember them.
They would have been proud.

So, dear Sophie,
Sweet dreams.
God bless.
Good night.

Dear Sophie.

Always one last time.

But in the darkest and brightest

Always remember them.
They would have been proud.

So, dear Sophie,
Sweet dreams.
God bless.
Good night.

Heart wrenching but beautifully written.
You are a great friend to Sopie.
I'll say a prayer for her.
Great job.

Beautiful write that just tore me up. Bless her, the road ahead will be hard for her, but she shall survive and grow extremely strong for this.
I lost my father to cancer when I was nine and my mother at eighteen. You never stop feeling "orphaned". I'm 42 and long for my mother especially, almost daily. I'm sending huge hippie hugs to you both. (Sophie will be in my thoughts)
Peace and love,
Laura

One of those poems that you suspect is going to move you before you even read the first line.
You didn't disappointment. It is a shame that this ever had to happen, cancer is such a cruel disease.
Such a brave little girl

Oh my dear friend, I read this the other night and wanted so
much to comment, but life just wouldn't allow me the time...

so here I am back to try and do justice to your incredibly
sweet and touching soul. Wow. Sophie is exceptionally
lucky to have you in her world, especially now.
Such a devastating blow she has sustained. My
thoughts, hopes and prayers will be directed for her
strength and blessings. (One of which HAS to be you,
dear friend)

Beautifully touching write, Dom.

Dom,

This was heart breaking and yet very uplifting. Heart breaking to know one so young is going through this. Uplifting to read of her strength. Uplifting to see a poet of your talents to present words that shall ever strengthen. A mighty poem for a mighty foe (the loss of parents). A courageous work of art and something Sophie hopefully and expectedly will carry with her forever to help guide her and hold tight to a dear memory.

WONDERFUL!

SCM

A tender and heart touching piece written in love and delivered like an angel. Well done my friend, blessings to Sophie and may her angels always stand beside her.

such a touching poem. Lovingly well-crafted, but the sentiment and supportive words stand out from the structure and are never too aloof or mired in the context of tragedy and loss.

if there is a Sophie to this poem, I'm sure in time she will cradle these words like the memories of those gone. Impressed, as always.
