so i noticed we're star-crossed
assuming we crossed ...enough
to call ourselves lovers
white knuckled and tight lipped
wide eyed and soft hearted
we tried
and we tried to well
failed to successfully
although this afterglow says something
not...quite as ugly
with every missed call
and notes slipped under my door
reading
"I Thought I'd Drop By, Just To Say Hi
Guess You Aren't Around This Time...Again
Sincerely That,
Something Of A Phantom Friend"
i rub my fingers over every letter
envious of every X and T
coming past me so effortlessly
and i'll put it away in my big box of
"WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN"
oh i'd be such a good girl
crossing my t's and dotting all my i's
if fate would be so kind
as to...maybe..once in a while
compromise
if not?
that's fine
we're creatures of habit
going back to what we love, and know
and i'll tell you one thing
you may have only given us an
inch of time
but we surely worked it
like a yard.
