You served me well in the field of uncertainty
With grains of ocean scattered across my mountain mind
Just give me some kind of sign you roads, and islands and bays
And drown me with insight of beauty arrays
It was true, everything he had always said
About never getting close enough
And the further I drove away
The more impossible it all became
Blueberry tea and high tides
Weren’t what I had expected
While watching all the planes overhead
Destined to reach the ground
And all those others reunited with their lovers
Gone safely into the city night
While disappointment is near to linger
It takes the form of the car I’m driving
And makes every song end too soon tonight
I could drive as far south on the highway
And envy all the murals on the side
Everything is so hopeless these days
And I always seem to be left guessing
In heaps of cigarette ash and engaging illusions
What more can I say for tomorrow?
When I just wanna grace those old sheets
And smell the hair dye from downstairs
But I’ve got a safe bet on this bed and hazy night tonight
With the heavy world crossing my sanity
As I make my way to the third story floor
Remembering open glares that meet the street signs
All along the gas stations and mile markers
I wanna hear all the stories of the Atlantic
That are convinced to end this apathy
And illuminate my darkened desert western home
As the shadows fade in the form of crossed miles
I’ll keep my faith in vacancy and indifference
With the city well within view
My heart has been placed in jeopardy
While your word was placed upon the wings of evening avenues
And I’m not getting any closer to where I want to be
So just be my guiding light or be my landing plane
Be my anchor in these seas of chaotic storms
And let me know that you’ll be the blanket to keep me warm tonight [comments] => 2 [counter] => 266 [topic] => 48 [informant] => spreadyourwings [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 5 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => EmotionalPoetry )
