Array ( [sid] => 135748 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => My thoughts of you [time] => 2007-07-06 01:23:11 [hometext] => This is a poem I wrote to my daddy before he died of cancer and it was also read at his funeral [bodytext] => Seeing him smile after a hard days work sitting in his chair
He is the man to all others I would compare.

If you look into his eyes,
Then you would realize,
He’s special - He’s definitely not your average man
He jokes, smiles, and makes you laugh even when you don’t think you can.

Thinking of those late night water chases
And teaching my daughter to lick others faces
A giant smile crosses my lips when I think of him
The hugs and kisses were never ever slim

Always offering a smile and never afraid to share a tear.
To imagine life without him is what I fear.
I can’t imagine not having those arms to hold me tight
Yes, I’m a daddy’s girl, let’s get that right.

When he comes around, the sun shines brighter.
He has always been a lover and not a fighter.
Lately he has had to face the ultimate fight.
I don’t understand and I don’t think its right.

Why did this happen to my dad?
I know that no answer will fit right.
I wish you could always be here Dad,
Selfishly, I am wishing that you would never lose the fight.

I know time is not to be exchanged or negotiated
Your time,
The time you lived, and this pain of yours,
If I had my life to do over,
I'd have chosen you to be my dad once more.

I know the time will come
When your time on earth will be done.
I know it sounds selfish but let me just say
Cancer or not I wish you could just stay.

But I am proud to say even after you are gone
In your children and ours you will always live on
