Unlike colonies who've before succumb~

to a lack of freedom thats left them numb

We've instead come to as one raise our voice~

& demand a destiny of our own choice...

Our want is simply of liberation~

& to that end make this declaration

No longer will our allegiance you hold~

for distance alone has not made us so bold...

But, the birth of our own ideology~

for which we are offering no apology

Yet, would ask your respectful observance of~

as the rights of all men are granted above...

This assertion of our independence~

from both your usury & your presence

Has been made mindful that war from could ensue~

& our blood spill for the chance to happiness pursue...

So, back across the waters take your crown & throne~

for these children of which, out of reach have grown

In a homeland of vast beauty by us alone tamed~

unto ourselves a sovereign nation now claimed!!!

Happy Belated Birthday, America!

I would like it noted that this is my understanding
of the Declaration & not necessarily my personal
opinions...Otherwise I'd have at least added the
rights of all men AND women...
*wink*

Beautiful write, Independence and freedom has been spoken again and again by many but what makes your poem unique is the style of simplicity that you have brought into this poem for young ones to understand.
Wonderful work.
FRANCO.

My sweet sister....wonderful rhyming here, you made it fun to read. I must say (cause that's how I am) *smiles* Our darn forefathers came here and invaded Indian Territory...so wow "our" independence was gained by stealing other's. Ouch... and they didn't teach me that when I was in school.
Right on with the write though Kerry. As always you make everything a joy to read....even the darned old Revolution. *smiles*
Love ya sis....peace always,
Me
