as i stand rifle in my arms
vest on tight
i stand my guard
with no one in sight
no idea what will come
to my post
at the small hours of the night
when a drunk comes to my sight
i try to send him away
he just wont go away
the insults come
from his drunken mouth
i try to ignore
but he pushes on
tell i cant stand him any more
then i have him taken away
if it where just that simple
to make a call and have
all your problems go away
the night came where the call came
and i had to travel to the problem
half way around the world
to where i have never gone
to a land completely new
no one knew me we all dressed the same
the only things that ever changed
where the stripes on my shoulder
even in the land of the new
i would stand beside my post
till the unexpected bullet came
it hit so hard and came so fast
i knew not where it came from
only where it stopped firmly in my body
my shoulder would not move
my arm was numb
what was i do to
so i made the call the help arrived
they never found who sent the painfull bullet
still months later the pain continues
even when i have returned home
to a job of no meaning
where i still remain unknown
even at home
