I observe two young men in a deep conversation. Here is what I hear:

“…So you gave your blood drop by drop
And squeezed your heart until it dried
So you shredded your soul tear by tear
And tortured yourself until you cried.

You tried to perform a miracle
When hope had long been dead
You gave your life, your soul, your all
to turn a black rose red.

Was it worth it, my friend, all you did?
Is her affection that valuable a prize?
You could have left her the way she was
With a broken heart and bloodshot eyes

You could have had the newest bloom
The unblemished daughter of the earth
And fall for her like the dew off her petals
To experience a love of endless mirth.

But alas, my friend, you chose her not
The discarded rose you saw instead
You were willing to die to make her live
To turn a black rose red.”

The other replied,
“I regret nothing of this choice I made
And I love her greater than anyone
I was falling from the moment I saw her
And learning that love isn’t just about fun

You say that I’m some sort of savior
Just because I did what was right
All I did was care relentlessly
And held her close through the rough night

She melted right in my arms
Her tears mingled with mine.
Yes, we melted together that night
Tears combined into the sweetest wine.

You say that I turned her black roses red
But I never saw black only beauty undisclosed
Beauty hidden under a cloak of pain
I just helped her realize that she is a red rose

She is my red rose, my prize flower
Everything I ever wanted her to be
Eternally in bloom, never ashamed,
And completely in love with me...”

If you take away "To turn a" you'd have a stronger title. Beyond that, I wouldn't comment if i didn't like it.

always, abraham

wow..i don't know what to say other then wow..thank you for posting this amazing write...it kind of hits close to home...being a black rose and all...amazing... and if this person depicted who turned the black rose red is you thank you for taking the time and the effort to see that we- though hurting and a little messed up..and a little mentaly and emotionaly beaten- are ppl too..and we can be beautiful if the world can only see us..and if someone can take the time and effort to help us heal...I have a poem called "flowers of a different hue."....i'd like to quote a line from it...Though we are beaten,
turned black and blue,
we are beautiful flowers
of a different hue.

again..thanks for posting such an outstanding peice of poetry.

wow! Beautiful work, and not just the words that live
free upon this page, but the sentiments and message
behind them ..

The title was absolutely stunning and throughout the piece
you kept true to it. Impossibly beautiful, my friend. Especially
the second last stanza. Damn! If only all could see things
that way .... exceptional write
