Array ( [sid] => 136574 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => we're much more capable when we don't sleep [time] => 2007-08-08 09:27:36 [hometext] => First Poem Ever. Obviously I haven't been sleeping. Tell me what you think please [bodytext] => We’re much more capable when we don’t sleep
Our imaginations run wild, our thoughts run deep
When we opt ourselves to stay awake
Emotions run higher, we make more mistakes
Our ideas become incoherent and strange
But we find that not a thing is out of our range
We can climb the highest mountain, swim the largest lake
We can do most anything when we’ve stayed awake
Much longer than recommended, much longer than allowed
By a society that tells us that sleep is a gift we’re endowed
But I say No! True brilliance comes from a lack of rest!
To overcome exhaustion is a trial, a test!
It strengthens us to stretch, to grow, to overcome
It shows us where the great minds were coming from
It brings us the joy of knowing what truly counts
It’s the people and places, not numbers and amounts
It’s the experience we gain from the hurt and the pain,
Not the cars or the women or monetary gain
People who feel there’s something they lack
Could take a few tips from an insomniac
So take your pills, and count your sheep
I refuse to give in and go back to sleep

first of all, this is an AMAZING first poem. later on, you may find this is your best - once you start writing more. i think the first is ALWAYS the best...you have that first inspiration, that raw emotion and thought. you just can't duplicate that.

secondly...i sooo agree. why sleep? after reading this, i may not sleep tonight. i mean - i understand why we need to eat, breath, and take a *****, but i dont understand why we need sleep.

thank you for sharing!
