It seems to linger so long
As if It knows She yearns for morn
Darkness seems painted on
Like a giant mural, from an artist born

A night can be so haunting
She hates the fear It can bring
Darkness seems to take to life
Like a mournful bird, It does sing

It can hold with a grip so tight
She fears It's unending grasp
Darkness can be a poison
Like the venom from the asp

Slowly the morning dawns
She sees the light fill the sky
Darkness, It slowly fades away
Like the shine, that once filled her eyes

wow hun! What a great piece! That picture is positively striking!!

There is a fear in the darkness that even the darkness knows not, methinks.
And that darkness doesn't necessarily reveal itself in the night. Sometimes it
shadows our days and is incredibly relentless when it wants to be, making it
damn hard to shake at times. But the sun DOES rise, and with it, hope and love.

The shine CAN be regained, or remembered, as it were. There is a
very powerful word that keeps our aim afloat in dark times. Belief

Great post, sis. I love this one.

~MG

This peice of poetic pleasure is quite a treat,
as well as a sad tale of inner turmoil which
seems to loom about in between the lines.

This poem reminds me, Lauraloo, of walking alone in an unfamiliar place. There is, in it, a sense of one feeling exposed and, too, that fear that something/one is creeping up behind you or lingering in wait around some nearby corner. It has that sort of "just keep going" self-talk feeling to it as well... that self talking that is intended to reassure oneself but is, too, really a statement of "God, I don't want to still be here when the sun goes down".

Keep on, keeping on, hun. You'll outpace some of those shadows... and the ones you can't? Well... I know you have it in you to kick the, uh...scary outta 'em. : )

*hugs you*

I've been afraid of the dark for most of my life... I wish that I could write about it, but you've said a lot of what I might have. Great job!

Be well,
Loende

Laura,

an interesting descriptive piece that concludes with a familiar personal comparision. Maybe the darkness within is the real fear. The opening stanza was an instant attention-grabber.
