While I was
doing my rounds
cleaning-up
and locking doors
I happened upon you two
Back to back
Sleeping on the floor
And I stopped
My head dropped
And I cried

I was flooded
With a thousand scenes
Things that you should have never seen
I wonder if you remember
And the last time, my dear son
In September
And if you do
I won’t have to explain
Why your father went
And why I don’t speak his name
But if you don’t
I don’t know what I will say
I never want you to hate him
Not the way I do anyway
I can’t explain why he doesn’t call
Or doesn’t bother to drop you a line
And I know sometimes
It isn’t going to be enough
For you to just be MINE
And that’s okay
I understand
I am sufficient for my purpose
I know I am not a man
But know that my love
Is more than 20 mommies
And 150 Dads
And I will guide you
Through this world
Being the best mommy-daddy
You ever had
I will provide and nurture
I will protect and comfort
And you will be strong
I will work and cook
Hold you when you are sick
From dusk until dawn
I will wash the clothes
And pay the rent
Watch basketball
Play base ball or catch
I love you
Perhaps I
Didn’t have enough time
To make the world perfect
before you came
But now that you are here
It will never be the same
I love you
From the womb to the tomb
My love is sufficient
For its ordained purpose
Loving you unconditionally
Undeniably
Undubiously
My boys
My baby boys
Be strong in Grace and Mercy
Love with all your heart
And pray unceasingly
I thank God for you
I love you
