Array ( [sid] => 142774 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => it's your room i love, but it's mine [time] => 2008-05-29 12:27:11 [hometext] => [bodytext] => the stone fish hanging on your wall reminds you of jesus
but as an self-proclaimed expert in religion
you don’t believe in jesus anymore
and the string pinned up in a spider web
above your bed
makes itself useful as a gum-collector
when you and a nice boy
find yourselves
too cozy to find the garbage bin across the room
naked in the dark

if newspaper articles, finger-painted and glued
told stories like they used to
they’d tell us all how beautiful
are the things you do alone in your room
and we’d believe them
walls don’t gain depth on their own
the mirror you gave a native ceremony
would agree if it wished, but it doesn’t
it’s jealous of your mother’s old coat you hang by its side
and its true heritage

the girl with the pearl earring would be upset
if she saw you smoking out your window
so you gouged out her left eye with a spring
that’ll teach her to judge
then covered the right with a little pink bear, just in case
another reminder of my childhood
pogs and pins and beads and flowers
i love everything you own
even that dirty old globe you refuse to throw away
predicts the places you’ll go some day
