As the 13th hour strikes
With the sudden scare a sleeping pulse ignites
As the chime raptures the silence
And echoes consume the cavernous halls
As the pall bearers march to a solemn tune
Murderers of souls and stealers of dreams
All come calling within that dreaded hour
Trembling footsteps upon darkened marble
Try to follow a candle lit path
As the shadows speak their treachery
Passers-by say that it is all in the head
Not knowing themselves of the demons
That come calling with the final chime
The 13th hour holds special meaning
Where colorful renditions
Of childhood memories reside upon the walls
Drawn with chalk and stubby crayons
Where the walls are soft and plush
Like that of a down comforter upon a winter bed
For this is the 13th hour
Never ending for the sun no longer shines
Through the painted windows
Out of which countless hours are spent staring
Wondering when the day will shine once more
And these eyes will shut forever.

Rich,
this poem rocks. The title of it does something to me, hard to explain.
The lines about the childhood memories that could send a shiver down my spine. This is an awesome write.

hugs n kisses

Rich,

This is awesome. Even from the start with the title, it haunts and entices the brain. Never a dull write from you.
