It seems not so long ago
Mama was lying face down
In the bitter red stained snow

What happened that day
To others is still a mystery
After all these years
In my mind I still see

Mama’s lifeless body
That’s when the policemen came
Pulling me away from there
They kept asking me my name

Some say it was a thief
Some a secret lover
But distant shadows
Over my mind still hover

You were away on business
In a far distant city
I remember your phone call
Promising me a kitty

Still I faintly recall
Hearing your voice that night
I can hear Mama crying
It was a terrible fight

Then the loud bang rang forth
Piercing was the scream
But you held me close
Said it was all a dream

They told me I was wrong
You were nowhere around
But I found your wedding ring
Laying on the ground

No one wanted to believe me
A child so frail and small
And you an upright businessman
But deep within I hear the call

Of snowy memories
I finally see through the lies
Daddy, I know the truth
The snow is deep outside

I found a gun in the closet
I understand what it is I do
Time to avenge Mama
Daddy I’m here to kill you

OMG

Shari, this is SO different from anything I've read from you. The
title seems so innocuous, (almost magically beautiful even), but the
stanzas are incredibly dark and foreboding! Great job at keeping the
suspense going throughout.

Excellent post, my friend!
