steps fall, deafening in their solitude, muted in their shoes
walking on
carrying on
masks that filter what is air from what you breathe
suffocate you
but no one sees the gasping, desperate breaths
pounding heart claiming your chest
living on
making time
marking time
eating days
living life has torn fingernails from your hands and
passion from your heart
what made you happier yesterday dices you up tomorrow
can you see?
are you looking?
watch carefully...you'll need it later
asking no questions, needing no explanation
you wander on, alone
no give in your weariness
no light in your skies

can you sense this pain beating it's tattoo of
anger down my skin?
holding it in my hands burns my fingers to tiny nubs
so I let it have it's way with my whole
body until I am bones left and
I can finally walk in peace

walking on
moving on

Don't know if it was your intent, but you have framed PTSD in your piece. Perhaps that of a veteran?
Its very good and very realistic.
The military title, drums beating a tattoo and masks adds to my reason for thinking this.
Keep it up!
Good job!
Steve
