I don't need a fancy way to to say it
Forget the scientic terms.
I just can't seem to fall alseep.
6 shots, 2 vicodin & 4 tylenol pm later
I'm still laying here in the dark
Listening to the music that's been playing in the background for the last four hours.
I've lost any hope of going to sleep unless I plan on taking three more of each and waiting for an accidental overdose.
That might just be a little more sleep then I would like.
I think ill pass.
I sit listening to the breathing of my best friend
Who tries so desperatly to stay awake with me night after night but falls victim to her own mental and physical limitations.
I mumble a quiet " goodnight" and hang up the phone knowing its just a waste of time since she's already happily submerged in her own dream land.
Now what?
Everyone else is asleep and here I am,
Wide awake.
Wide awake, but still so tired.
Exhausted to be exact.
Wanting nothing more then to go to sleep
But with no idea how to tame this wandering mind.
No plan as to how I'm suppose to calm this chaotic scene in my head
Resembling the crowded streets of new york city
Where every taxi cab and pedestrian represents an individual thought traveling through yet trapped in the traffic of my unexplainable teenage mind.
Stop thinking so much.
Just go to sleep.
Lay in the dark.
Count sheep.
Oh trust me I've tried.
But I think the concept is void when you get to 250 sheep and all you can think about is that if some little girl named mary had a little lamb, why can I ?
By the time I find my mind unwinding and my eyes are weighed down by fatigue.
After what seems like a good 10 minutes of rest
I hear the buzzing of my alarm.
Instinctivly I turn it off and start my day
Knowing I only got a good hour and a half of sleep.
There's nothing I can do about it now
Except get up and proceed with my day.
Oh well, I guess ill have plenty of time to sleep when I'm dead.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
