but not the knife
he’s afraid of taking control
of his own life

he’s afraid of getting started
and what comes after being done
he’s afraid to change his point of view
for fear of what he might become

he’s afraid to hear the whisper
for the secrets he might find
he’s afraid to look behind himself
for the truth can be unkind

he’s afraid to laugh at misery
for the tears that might respond
he’s afraid to look at the face of pain
for fear he might grow fond

he’s afraid of being bad
he’s afraid of being good
he’s afraid to speak his mind
and be misunderstood

but I can feel he’s growing stronger
can’t hold his breath much longer
I feel he might be changing
to catch a world that’s rearranging

he’s afraid of the rub
that’s not a touch
he’s afraid of not being
afraid too much

he’s afraid to live like lightning
and move in silver shock
he’s afraid to set his hands free
and misrepresent the clock

he’s afraid of what he’s said
afraid of what he’s heard
he’s afraid of the connotation
of a dark four-letter word

he’s afraid to glance toward heaven
and by chance create a god
he’s afraid to laugh at sorrow
for fear that someone might applaud

he’s afraid of looking forward
he’s afraid of looking back
he’s afraid to look into his soul
and peer between the cracks

but I can feel he’s growing stronger
can’t hold his breath much longer
I feel he might be changing
to catch a world that’s rearranging

Blake,

Being afraid is something most go through.
Being able to be the person you are, is not
only a relief to the soul but also makes you
a stronger person. Be who you are and be proud. great write........Mike
