Leaving salty little rivers down my cheeks
I'm sobbing, laughing, smiling
My heart feels like it's going to explode in my chest
The stars seem to be shining a little brighter
Twinkling and winking and smiling down in joy
I know when the sun rises tomorrow
It'll be the brightest sunrise to date
Tonight was a night to remember
History books will forever have today wrote down
The day we stepped into the right direction
The day the America grew just a little more open-minded
A little more kind, a little stronger, a little better
Historic moments like this are hard to come by
I've never felt so proud, so excited
Finally something good
As he speaks I listen to every word
The sound of his voice soothing
It's amazing, spectacular
His words bring the smile to my face
The tears back to my eyes
Finally America shows her truth
Lights flashing across the screen I want to scream in joy
They say the words I hoped beyond hope to see
Carry the message of strength, of change, of a better future

The significance of Obama winning last night speaks mountains for our generation and how far we have come in the past 40 years. I just hope and pray that he can reach across the table, and not be that far left democrat that he is historically known to be. I hope and pray that he does what is best for our country and not his party.

I felt exactly the same way, I sat at the edge of my seat as the numbers came in and then started laughing and crying at the same time when they did. It was a great day! Your poem was so touching thanks for posting it :)
