And rejoice in it too!
He campaigned with class and dignity
He spoke for me and for you

He is our new hope
So you lost? Don't mope

He will lead us all the same
With no preference for one over another
In people's hearts He lit a flame
He will be our sail and anchor

Stop worrying, there's no need to be afraid
Give the man a chance
Don't be dismayed
For truth and change He took a stance

So many tears of joy flowed that night
Everything will be all right
And after centuries of slavery, racism and cruelty
I think you'll agree

This was long overdue
So take pride in your country
And bid the old ways "adieu"
For this Victory

Belongs to all of us!

As a poem this seems a bit unimaginative. It seems to be more you directly talking to your audience than you writing a poem.

As for you content, your optimism seems a bit extreme. I have been campaigning for Obama since his senate race. That said, he is not the answer to our prayers. And his success is not an indication that racism is over in this country. I have seen blatant racism in many parts of the country, including my own very liberal suburb of Chicago, and it is not going anywhere. Still, he does offer hope to the world. I agree with your basic premise of "let him be praised". Congradulations America; we have taken a significant step.
