Fallen Angel

How long has it been since i last stood here
the years have melded into infinity
timeless days have passed before me,
with eyes that foresaw greatness
and a future so bright.
But reality is much, much crueller
empty, alone and troubled,
the eyes which once held so much love and promise
now filled with hate and regrets
the spirit sleeping in murky pools of confusion
among the decaying ruins of a life
a life built on muddy quicksand.
To stretch out the tired scared arms
up to the open blue sky and fly on wings of elysian
towards my own private arcadia
only to fall bloody and beaten
crying tears of blood face down in mud
failure is the reality of this life
collapsing to my knees upon an ashen earth
for one final fall, one final failure.
