Staring out at nothing, feeling all alone,
A heart calls out but falls on deaf ears,
Lost within the present, eyes well up in tears,

No grand feast, no horse and carriage,
No glory to be had, I fear this soul may soon perish,
No castles made of gold, no battles to be won,
No subjects to speak of, alas I am the only one,

Black clouds surround my seat of misery,
Rain falls with only the cold arms of darkness to comfort me,
Alone I sit as I reach for my sword,
Do I turn it on myself, or do I change her course,

A crown made of pain sits high upon my head,
With only pieces of broken dreams to make my bed,
I close my eyes, and visualize,
The rising of the sun, and finding that special someone,

Again I awake to a single heartbeat,
No trumpets sound for this hurt cuts deep,
So I take my seat upon my throne,
Stare off at nothing …… thinking of home.

A king without a kingdom, I sit upon my Throne,
Staring out at nothing, feeling all alone,
A heart calls out but falls on deaf ears,

Awww Matt..this is so heart-breaking... you have encompassed so many dark images within this poem... it just tears the reader apart.. I hope better days are ahead in the near future.

My dear friend,
This is heart wrenching to say the least.
I was just thinking bout you and how much I respect and appreciate you and all our soilders the world over.
Theirs no way I can comprehend how it is over there. I do know the sacrifices you make to keep us safe. My son was in the milatary (Army). The day he was to be deployed over there is when OPperation Dessert Storm suposedly ended the war. They sent him home instead of there. I still thank God for that. Ofcourse he wanted to go and do his part but God seen it different. Many of the soilders they sent over there came back sick from something.
Friend, I'm hear for you any time you need to talk. You know that don't cha? You're always in my prayers daily. Every time I hear something on the news from there I think about you and pray that you are safe.

I really felt this. It left me feeling so solitary and alone. But that's a normal state for me. Great write. I hope you get into a better state of mind soon.

King on the throne of the kingdom of sorrow. Oh, It is a great write as you do always..

in America told me that she included your name in her prayers for soldiers as I let her know your name since you are our soldier poet friend.
