Clods of me crumple in your hand when you hold it
A cruel sun has bleached away all of my nutrients
Thus, I can no longer sustain life, nothing will grow
My voice is a wind that will scour the flesh from your bones
Whatever is left shall be devoured by my own vermin
Water that is life has not touched me in years
My heat is oppressive and will savage you
Life has been taken from me, and so I take life from all
One would think I was the Desert…
But my name is Love…

Wow, Steve.... This is intense. It's gut
wrenching. Grief, frustration, and a
kind of resigned defeat with a lingering
hope clinging to the end. I wish there
were words that I could write that might
bring you some comfort. I can't even
imagine what it's like to be where you
are, so far away from your own 'water'
and being beaten down by a very real
desert. Just know that I pray for you
each and every night, and I will never
forget your sacrifice. I am humbled
by your service and dedication.

Ever thankful for your friendship,
and your amazing talent,

~dawn
