Adrenaline pours
Into my veins
Driving me insane

Giving to me
something so obscene
that lust for flesh to tear at the seams
Lust to see the blood to gush and gleam

Standing in a scene of blood and gore
Adrenaline pours
Feeding the lust to see the pain
This blood lust is driving me insane

The need for more burns in me
I just to see the gush and gleam
Crimson paint covering the scene
making this masterpiece gleam

Such a beautiful piece of work
I don't want this to end
I think I'll start from the beginning again

As you can imagine, this poem left me with a lot of mixed emotions. That's a good thing! You know that, on the one hand, some will condemn you for glorifying death and gore. Conversely, some will praise you for just that: giving voice to an undeniable aspect of human experience. It is true that, however civilized we may fancy ourselves, we are ultimately not so far removed from the savages of yore.

There are times in the night when my mind refuses to drift blissfully to its rest. It is in those periods of insomnolence that the wheels begin turning in contemplation of where we are as a species. More importantly, I think of precisely how we got here: all too often on a foundation of blood upon blood upon blood. The unflinching truth is that each of us alive today exists but for the killing instinct of at least a portion of our ancestors.

And it remains with us today. Whether we speak of locations torn by war, where children are sometimes required to murder their families, or of places nearer to home--where disturbed individuals massacre women in a gym, students in a university, or passers-by on the street--it behooves us to remember just exactly what we are capable of. This is where art such as your present poem finds its place.

What a terrible folly it would be to ignore the beast within. To do so would be to invite the very vulnerability that it preys upon. In that spirit, I come to praise you, not to condemn. Thank you for a vivid and thought-provoking read. Sincerely,

-Kris-
