Clinging on for dear life,
Trembling on that thin branch
As howling winds cut like a knife.

Your life was draining away,
Veins became raw and bare,
Inevitably you had to fall,
I watched you lay right there

Where my dirty brown boots
Crushed your brothers and sisters,
Crinkled scarlet and gold leaves
Piled up, covered with blisters.

There, resting at my feet
Like a fallen, scarlet star
Your pitiful life reminded me
Of how fragile we truly are.

nice poem!

But all is not lost in the fallen leafs...they are just re entering the mud and water to feed the system and reappear in the spring :-)

What a beautifully captured melancholy. I love this! For me, Autumn is
bittersweet. I adore the colour, the scent, the crisp, clean air, but
there is a certain sadness to it's conclusion. Now I look out my back
window and the trees stand naked ...stripped of all their glorious
colour. You've captured that emotion so brilliantly here. Excellent post!
