But she needed a lift
To the bank to cash her pay cheque

As her colleague obliged
She gave thanks for the ride
As to walk was a pain in the neck

Once there, she must sign
On the black dotted line
If she wanted to change up her money

So reached into her purse
This unfortunate nurse
Digging deep for her pen in a hurry

Now the clerk knew her well
"She's a sweetie" he'd tell
"She's the Queen of good life and sobriety"

But shame fell upon her
As she plucked a thermometer
From her purse of the rectal variety!

Quicker than she'd retrieved it
Said "I'll have to leave it"
And dashed for the door there and then

Now the clerk nearly died
When... "You see", she replied...
"Someone's bottom has still got my pen!" [comments] => 13 [counter] => 894 [topic] => 7 [informant] => laststarontheleft [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 19 [ratings] => 4 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => HumorPoetry )

Very good, I loved the ending! Rectal thermometers make such good humor material...

What a joy this poem turned out to be. So often, rhyming sounds forced and hackneyed, but you used it skillfully: never obtrusive and definitely adding to the poem's humorous tone. Well done
