I really love this poem. Do you ever share these with your students?

When I was a child, I loved what I still call the "whirly birds" that come off maple trees. This reminded me of those fond memories. Now I'm a cranky old man and really don't like maple trees because they break too easy from storms. Have seen too many homes get damaged...sometimes severely due to weak easy to break maple trees. But then I read this and remembered something I loved about them and perhaps still do.

Thank you very much... really.

Tim

Oh yes! When I was young, my sister and I would
climb the maples in our backyard and free the
"helicopters" just to watch them spiral to the ground.
What a joy you've captured in so few words.

lovely work. -- Achelois

I see you've struck a cord in many a young heart . It takes talent to do this.
Very good haiku.
