Array ( [sid] => 159406 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => THE ADDICT [time] => 2010-04-30 20:05:38 [hometext] => In all the dark poetry I write, I am drawing on my experiences as a Law Enforcement Officer and receiving ideas from what others have actually said to me over the years! I am a happy go lucky guy who just tries to convey the anguish of others in verse [bodytext] => I often gazed into your eyes.
I used to love this great delight.
They shone and sparkled brightly
But were a dark pool into your soul.

I saw love there within the depths
With my reflection facing me.
Could you see you within my eyes
On the way into my heart?

But recent days and months and years
Have seen the fading of that light.
A glazing has overtaken them.
As if sobriety escapes your grasp.

Your speech now slurred beyond belief
When once you had command
Of language, thoughts, and every facet
Within your social structure.

Bloodshot and watery with dark circles
Those eyes now often shut,
While on the highways driving,
A danger to self and others.

Many trips to many doctors
For prescriptions every day.
You pick a new one daily,
But you cannot fool them all.

You are an ADDICT Damn You!
And you’ve cheated us our future.
I want to gaze into the eyes
That once controlled my soul!

This poem moved me greatly! A loved one who has succumbed to substances hurts others as well as herself. I can feel the pain and frustration in this piece. It nearly brought tears to my eyes. An amazing poem! I am sorry you have had to go through this experience!

I'm feeling the anger but also the sense of losing someone for no real reason. I like it well done
