Embrace of the Briar

Humid walls and air putrefy,
recycled bullets reeking of hate purefy,
pupils dilate, one civil war is over,
another bomb explodes, start over, start over
Layers of moss, of blood, of poison,
dried up and yet fresh, as houses burnt down by arson.
Someone stop this pogrom, this soulless thresh,
naïve eyes, scream to protect this proud flesh…
puncture, puncture,
this time another rupture,
dusk, gloom, darkness, again,
I hope for light in this god-forsaken cave in vain…
-and still I get up, no point but still striving, to conquer this fear,
with burning blades someday, these thorns I will shear…
