not quite underground,
not quite on the surface,
dry sand and rock surround me
I spin around and suddenly green all around me,
I play with matches in a pool of gasoline,
burn up and come out smiling,
trip and fall into an U-shaped abyss of false infinity and unreal light,
the train is speeding up,
the rails are detaching,
give me wings and ill carry the world on my shoulders,
just if I can get out of my bed this morning...

Who need side windows when all I have to look forward to is promise,
a clean slate to be etched with chaos,
but blank and free forever,

The tunnel narrow,
darkness envelops,
light again, fledgling,
gone again,
is this it, my mortal highway?

but opens up again to show me how close to the surface I can be,
and yet so deep I believed to be...

just give me darkness,
give me truth,
give me the space I was promised,
these old shackles with some more rust I will be able to tear!

give me the always-ending heroin of life,
now.
or I shall live forever...

I jump into a hole hoping to find real treasure,
and I fall, fall fall,
back around and free fall back to earth,
unhurt, unglorious...
an eternal loop of mediocre leaps and inconsequential shots,
who needs a leap of faith
when all you need to believe in is right in front of you...

I'm sick of this eternal midday,
I can't move the sun (god knows i've tried)
so i'll just poison myself in the shadows.
I dig my own holes;
my own patches of reality whose bottoms are simply more of this blanket or bliss and surreal everything

But I must not be held much longer,
I cannot sunbathe so, when all around me the blizzard rages on,
I need to be stronger,
I need to feel alive,
I need to feel the cold touch of a corpse's fingertips and finish this vegetarian beefburger,
I want the chill, the goosebumps, the never-ending memory burned on the side of my skull,
an eternal reminder of the darkness at the end of that fabled tunnel...

to which I so foolishly
hitherto long to go under...

Finally I have my way,
but a day, a month, a year to soon, I, erm... daresay?
The tunnel glooms below me, I see nothing but chances to my body electrocute...
and alas!- I jumped out of the plane without a parachute...

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
