Back to my childhood days
Visions of my parents
Flashed across my mind.
At the break of morning light
I saw my mother in front of our house
Drawing designs of flowers, birds
And patterns of leafy creapers
With white chalk powder
On the clean swept wet ground.
She had created a galaxy of flowers
With powdered chalk, while beautifying
The front yard of our house!
She was there in the kitchen
Serving hot breakfast and hot tea
To my father, sister and to me with
Affectionate smiles on her charming face.
At midday time before we had food
Hearing the cry of a hungry soul in the street
When she ran to the door and offered food
To an old man I saw the divine grace
In her merciful eyes!-
~*~
On the holy days of November
And December months, my parents
Had their holy baths in the warm currents
Of river Krishna early before Sunrise,
When my mother lighted up cotton wick lamps
In leafy cups and floated them across the waves
It looked as if she was floating the star boats
Across the heavenly Ganges of the night sky!
On the full moon day of November
Observing the fast at day time, and after sunset
My mother lighted up the lamps in earthen cups
And in the moon light sitting in lotus posture
When my parents were meditating on God,
I thought they were the God and Goddess
Who assumed the form of human beings!
Although they left this mortal world,
Yet, they're living as immortals in God,
And their most beautiful memories
I have treasured in my heart!

i like it. it's interesting to me. it's amazing how different our cultures are, and yet the mind and imagination of the child...

universal!

A beautifully written poem. It offered a fascinating snippet into Hindu/Indian culture, which I find to be one of the most interesting in the world (superior, in many ways, to that of the materialistic west. Also dotted in there were some lovely, genuine emotions; and great images of nature.

Beautiful Venkat, just glorious. It does reflect Hido culture, but the reflection of a culture is minor in comparison with the essential that is clearly reflected. in these glorious visions. " L O V E

To me, the greatest gift of a talented writer is the ability to transport the reader back to the time and place from which the words were inspired. You have absolutely accomplished just that. I could literally smell/feel the air. Wonderful poem.

You've painted some wonderful scenes in words here.
When a poem can transport you to a place you have never been or seen with such clarity then it is worthy of praise.
That's what you achived here.

Steve

Absolutely beautiful!!!

The love you had for your parents as a child has never failed and this poem is a testament to that. They live in another life now still watching over you.

Take care,

Tim
