Prose is just the lazy way
to say what's on your mind,
no skill or talent is required
- there is no need to rhyme.
Just throw some words together
all jumbled and confused,
then sit and watch the comments made
- i'm sure you'll be amused.

Well, John you are certainly entitled to your opinion. Isn't everyone?

When you make a generalized statement, such as this, there may very well be some truth to it. Kinda like when they write horoscopes. Say enough and some truth will ring out. It has to because the person has written enough for some of it to be true

But there are definitely writers that write prose and they are not at all lazy. I have seen works of art in prose (again only an opinion). There are "poets" that sometimes rhyme that still don't make sense even after all their rhyming has been set in line in metrical fashion. Is that lazy when they force rhymes? Yup, but then that's only my opinion.

So, there is enough here in your poem to, yes, be true but also enough here to be insulting to those that put a great effort into their "prose".

Just because we don't know what's going on in their minds and may not understand them, doesn't necessarily mean they were being lazy for they, as a human, as a person with heart and feelings quite possibly put their heart and soul into a particular piece while the rest of us may not even have a clue. How are we to know what's going on in their minds? You may not understand it. I may not understand it. The masses may not but does that make it lazy every single time? Not really.

From a personal aspect, I wrote something (I avoid using the word poem because obviously you'd disagree) in 2009 that took me a long time to write and I really struggled to write it. It didn't rhyme (well most of it) and I can say one thing for sure, there wasn't anything lazy about it.

I think lazy could apply to a lot of writing but do I know that to be absolutely true? No, I could not possibly know because I cannot get into their own personal realm and know what was going on at the time in their mind; their heart's; their soul's.

An appearance of laziness to us could have been a battle for them.

Thanks,

Tim

I think Tim nailed this one right on the hammer.

Better luck next time John!

On a serious note, was this hard to write? While it looks nice and easy, almost lazy, somehow I imagine it wasn't.

Hahaha! I hardly NEVER rhyme. And almost never finish reading a poem that does. Each to their own...

Although I hardly ever write prose I have to disagree with you. I have read some very good prose over the years and I know it took some serious thoughts and time..... nothing lazy about that at all....

You are missing the point my friend. It is not to rhyme, but to express yourself, whether or not it is prose or poetry.

To touch... to think... to feel,
that is what poetry is about,
To give them something real,
not to yell and shout.

The beauty is in the mind,
so beautiful and true.
I believe that you will find,
it brings out what's inside of you.
