The sheep have cried, feeble pathetic bleats,
A chorus of pure loneliness in a choir of deep despair.
And all night too the frost has shown it's fire,
Sizzling and searing the grass,
Penetrating cloven hoofs and oily wool,
A cold deeper than cold
Entering the despairing minds of the ewes.
And look at the frost revelling stars, see how they gloat,
Teasing the huddling sheep, wool on wool,
Cloven hoofs touching, legs entwined
Like lazy Sunday lovers, but not out of love
Or lust or wantonness
But out of the sheer need to survive one more night.
And hear too the silence,
Not a breeze to stir the darkness,
Not a cloud to distort the owl in flight.
And no dog fox barking for he too is weary of the cold.
Picture him if you will in the sharp focus of your mind,
Snug beside vixen and half grown cubs.
Imagine too the chilly bones of the solitary watcher.
For I too am surprised by the cold.

You paint a good picture with your words. It also had a sort of abstract, surreal feel to it even though you were clear as to what you were talking about. Well done.

Outstanding imagery my friend and you have a talent for bringing the reader into your landscape and it's a beautiful setting. A creative view meshed with fantastic writing. Well done again.

you've excelled again, you obviously have an affinity with your environment, too many people are detached from the world around them in their centrally heated homes.

Wow! This is very good...it made me shiver.
