You can't help but grimace
at the irony,
because they're standing side by side.
You go over get some fast food,
they call it that because
It's quick and easy to make,
But I swear it takes forever to digest the thing.
Some friends come pick you up,
you're sittin' in the back seat of a van
with a cheeseburger sittin' like a rock in your stomach.
On your way to see
a violent movie about a conflict
that could have been solved with a cup of coffee,
and a pack of cigarettes.
There are big men, with big guns
and there’s always that one woman
with the tight clothes,
and a foul mouth.
You sit back and you start to wonder
what we're teaching people these days.
When the hero won
and the credits start rolling,
you grab your jacket and get back in the van
and you don't say a word the whole ride home.
You go on up to the house,
Turn on the lights,
go up the stairs,
take your protriptyline with a shot of whiskey
and eventually fall asleep. [comments] => 1 [counter] => 131 [topic] => 31 [informant] => TannerJames [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 5 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => StoryPoetry )

This is my kind of writing. Brutally honest and leaving everything out there to be digested. It's genuine and there is a haunting reality to it all. Thank you very much for sharing this. Truly a pleasure to read this.
