the luxury embedded in the wild forests of Africa was ours
maidens with flesh as soft as silk bore our children

Very romantic. Although the white man didn't invent slavery. There is nothing genetic about the inclination to promote slavery. It has gone on for thousands of years, both between and within cultures. It was going on between tribes in africa by the africans at the time "evil" white man arrived. The white man didn't even have to divide and rule because the divisions were there anyway. Don't get this wrong. I don't agree with slavery but this obsession with colour is racism no matter what the circumstances.

Anyone of a racist inclination who is keeping score may wish to take comfort in the fact that white men were slaves to the japanese in the last century.
In the two centuries before that white wage slaves died in coal pits and insane factory conditions in the north (and midlands) of england. white children regularly died sweeping chimneys etc etc. Whites had slavery of a kind within our culture. although the word slave was diluted by the word "class".

All I'm saying is that life was rubbish for lot's of people in lot's of cultures since time began. Being the product of slavery may be a hard cross to bear, or it may make you proud. However, would you sooner be a black man in America, or Africa? Think hard.

Indeed this is a perfect example of imperialism. It is true that Europe took over much of Africa. Then again the Greeks had four people groups take over one country. It started with the Minoans then the myceneans to the dorians and lastly the current group:Ionians. Goes to show lands are constantly being taken over due to mans nature of wanting more. Take care and God bless,
Deidra

Please accept my apologies for my earlier patronising comments. it is a fact that europeans did not introduce slavery to africa, but they did use the system of slavery already prevalent in the huge landmass of Africa for their own means.
I suppose it's only natural for everybody to want to explore their own roots and wonder what if. I am of Irish heritage, but when I visited Ireland I realised that I may share genetics but I am not Irish. I also don't feel entirely English. I am somewhere inbetween with a tendency towards the culture I was brought up in.

Although, I believe that it is IMPERATIVE to learn from History, in my esteem, no good can come from citing historical wrongs in a defensive game of one~up~man~ship...If you go back far enough, no one culture can win or lose the title of, "Most Wronged"...

I guess that was more a comment on the comments than the actual write, which to me didn't read as a blaming so much as a yearning for greater knowledge of self...
