as layer upon layer of heedless prayer
now become vain supplication
frozen within a wind-filled lair. . .
& chimings of a million pardons
the hum of transposed identities. . .
the clatter & turmoil subsiding, half-hearted,
initiating from the other side
& I alone within these bones
only myself to rebuke & chide. . .
blackness engulfs tired sullen pupils
long dialated & filled with steaming tears
trying to encompass/recall compassion
instead of malevelant brooding fears. . .
peering into an infinite fury
red & bottomless, hateful pit
my wings remains but blistered, peeling
I hang above the whole of it. . .
all the while aware of wailing, hollowing, snarling
jaws slamming just above my head
inches from the mind I'm loosing
to terror, pain. . . horrendous dread

I tingle slightly from exhaustion
alert to poison filtering the air
from hiss & breathe, a misty concoction
issuing forth, meets my despair. . .
& as I scream, unable to fathom
my incinerated, dripping skin
a morsel now for the dark side's pleasure,
the agonies begin again.
mere mortals suffer but know not
the consequence of deeds & words
& thoughts of naught. . .
but I tell you. . . as day's light fades
each night my hollow bones are fraught
with ghoulish pryings. . . devils crying. . .
& black ops of the eternal kind
I only live, of this to give
before I loose my grief-filled mind
stray not. . . stay straight & oh forth right
do not falter from what's right
or you may suffer. . . my ill fate forever
to claw your way
back towards the light. . . [comments] => 3 [counter] => 369 [topic] => 13 [informant] => elle [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => DarkPoetry )

Hi Elle! I truly have missed your writing as you set the bar time and time again. Your lines always contain so much packed into each one of them. This is incredibly dark and delicious and a feast for the mind. Beautifully done.

Incredible. I came to the realization when I was done reading this that I had actually stopped breathing, entranced. I never skipped a beat or re-read a line, and when I finished I knew I didnt have to read it again. I am filled with a smoldering and darkened satisfaction. Very interesting.
