My heart is thumping, my stomach’s full of butterflies.
My tongue seems too big, my throat is so dry,
I have to get the words out, I have to try.

Suddenly the feeling returns, I know what to say,
I’m ready to do it, I know today’s the day.
I pull the box from my pocket and show you the ring,
You smile at me and my soul starts to sing.

I take a deep breath and the words start to flow,
Too quickly at first, but I calm down and slow.
I realise I’m whispering, I lose my way,
Finally I get a grip, start again and say:

‘From the moment I saw you, I knew it was right,
The world faded to black and you were it’s only light.
Once in a lifetime, the world stops for everyone,
Right then I knew you were, for me, the only one.’

Her smile grows wider and tears fill her eyes,
She tells me to hurry before she really begins to cry.
My confidence grows, fear has no part,
Slowly I place my hand upon my heart.

‘This is the promise I make to you, there’s nothing we can’t do,
Whatever life throws at us, together, we can see it through.
So I ask you to grant me the biggest honour of my life,
To love me, as I love you, and to please be my wife?’
