It will consume you, body and soul
It will pounce, cut off all avenues
Leaving few options open to you

This beast has tracked me side to side
Left me stranded on islands so wide
Everywhere black skies, huge crashing waves
Brought me to the edge of my own grave

Countless attacks on my heart and mind
Leaving me confused, dazed, hard to find
I've wandered its jungle, alone, scared
That world can never be shared

I've beaten the beast on several occasions
Rested on the shore, stars in my vision
Felt the sun's warmth, love's glow on my skin
Knowing then what it felt to really win

Another sneak attack, from the back
I would run and run, hide from its track
Sometimes it would drag me down to its den
In the dark, no hope, no family, no friend

I'd reach out, talk until blue in the face
Usually ended up feeling like a nutcase
Doctors giving me pills, one after another
All that did was tear my body asunder

Could be the answer to this sad, wrenching pain
Is not in the pills, talk, beach or rain
I need to look inside, deep into my soul
I will tame the beast, gain back my control

I will defeat this depression, beast or not
Will not back down until this battle is fought
I will win, no doubt victory will be mine
I will live, love, enjoy my right to the sunshine [comments] => 2 [counter] => 121 [topic] => 61 [informant] => dvtpdw [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => selfstruggles )

Incredible write! As someone who has suffered from serious bouts of depression I related to this poem instantly.

A wise man once told me, "No matter what, take another step, take another breathe, just keep living"
