[hometext] => I was dealing with the potential end of my marriage so one of the things I did was write poetry to deal with the pain. Thankfully, things are better, but this poem was written during one of the most painful times in my life.
[bodytext] => We used to be an island, it was only you and me, All around was endless sky and infinite blue sea, Anything we hoped for, we closed our eyes and dreamed. People tried to swim to us To splash in our happy sea. Every day I waved good-bye As you sailed off on your journeys. You couldn’t wait to come back home and tell me what you’d seen. But one day, fate it took you, on a different wayward swell, To a place you’d never seen before, What it stirred you’d never tell. The waves kept pushing you away, Until the current quietly shifted You couldn’t find your way back home to our kingdom we were gifted. Adventures are the only thing That you say you are seeking, But what can those words really mean, For the love that we are keeping. You gaze away from paradise To a shoreline that’s intriguing, Uncharted distant harbors holding only your own dreams. I’ve waited for my heart to say, It’s time to let us go. My arms they ache from holding you And keeping dreams afloat. I let you go and watch so sad, as you happily drift away, To a different kind of ocean from the one that we have made. An island is a beautiful, uncharted, fragile thing, Forgotten and abandoned until the next wave brings. Two lovers who imagine something beautiful and sweet And stay to build their castle on the shimmering crystal beach. And once again the waves will lap, On pristine sandy shores Singing songs about the dreams Of those who stayed and loved before.
