Faces are numb and the masses are sneezing.
Carols are ringing and belting out strains
of tidings o' joy to the runny-nosed weans.

Then down from the north, to conduct a review,
comes Dancer the chancer and Lou the gnu.
From a cloudburst of tinsel Sir Rudolph appears
with Donner and Blitzen - the ones with big ears.

''Good people'' cried Rudolph, ''forgive my intrusion,
so follow me now for a coffee infusion.''
He's a leader by nature and stature and nous,
so nobody chunters - not even a mouse.

In the cafe they gather the folk and the staff,
the gnu's with the children - making them laugh.
Coffees are served with aplomb and appeal
as they wait for Sir Rudolph to deliver his spiel.

''Kind people of Hamilton - Santa's a wreck!
He's new to this game of politically correct.
You see - Prancer is injured so he's not in the frame,
but Lou the gnu has tendered a claim.
Should Santa think ''streamline'' and launch a new rage?
Have a gnu on the crew - on a minimum wage?
Some say he's ugly and grumpy and old.
If his claim's not upheld then he'll have to be sold.''

Up jump the nippers, they've heard quite enough . ..
''JUST GIVE LOU THE JOB, COS HE'S CUDDLY BUT TOUGH!''
So right there and then it came to fruition
that the Hamilton children had swung the decision.

He holds his head high and puffs out his chest,
a champion to children, a gnu to the rest.
''Come Rudolph, come Donner, come Blitzen, come Dancer!
The weans make the rules, and you just heard their answer!''

T'is the day before Christmas and Hamilton's freezing.
Faces are numb and the masses are sneezing.

spudders!

top shelf Christmas cheer - no blended muck but the smooth taste of matured spirit of poesy. I gotta big grin from cheeks to chin. kids always get it right (more than us old fogies, anyway)

a gnu -who knew? the replacement reindeer... (Disney will get hold of it, soon enough). Please put a whippet in the next one - I love whippets. and yes I have been drinking.

S.

Giggled my way through realising a certain theme of coffee slurping, just wonderful Tommy, the laughter got louder with,' cuddly but tough,' and the children get the last say, so they should! Never stop penning x
