Two decades wasted, all in the past
I never finished school, never had a wife
Just a dead job with a dead end life

Once upon a time, I believed in dreams
And turning life to more than it seems
As the years rolled on, the dreamer awoke
The moonlight faded and daylight broke
Revealing a man who was nothing more
Than a broken castle on the ocean floor
Once towering and standing free
Now just a shadow of what it used to be

I'm running the race like a mouse on a wheel
Always wondering how it would feel
To watch my feet move and go somewhere
Could I go far enough to leave despair?

And I dream of a girl I used to know
How we watched the trees and the fireflies' glow
How I held my thoughts deep in my chest
How feelings are wasted if never expressed

I'd like to start over, but I don't know how
There's nothing new when there's no way out
Buried alive under all the debris
Of all the things I was meant to be [comments] => 4 [counter] => 353 [topic] => 21 [informant] => stalkee [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => Lifepoems )

so well written this is. many never finished in school.
If you would have what would you have become?
Intelligent mind, I do know you have. All the things you were meant to be, I know of many who went to grad school,
who could never write like you have.
The best thinkers in all the world, dreamers, clearly demonstrating with words to somehow only be understood...
The child that you were and the girl that you knew,
fireflies in tall grass, as the twilight sinks in the cool summers night air so rich. Very good writing...
To Be, or Not To be, you know it well my friend!
Best poem I've read in a while...

Peace!

I've read several of your poems and you write extremely well. I know as we get older our dreams fade and often die if not well tended. I used to be that girl (for someone else) and he is long long gone away. A lovely poem, though sad, reminding me of nostalgic things.
Blessings, SF

Maybe we are who we are meant to be whilst the dream is the falsehood of whom we were never intended to be.Thought provoking write well worth the read.

this is so beautiful and also very sad, it flows so
quickly and your style and talent shine here, if it
hasn't already; it will all work out, and if not,
number one thing you are a poet who can turn
the sad in life into something beautiful with your
pen, blessings,

hugs n' love nessa
