Mandela and Gandhi great leaders of their time.
Not just public speakers but humble and kind.
Names that can be mentioned in the same breath.
They stood fast in their belief till death.
Our nation has lost a father and the world a Son.
One that brought us all together with words and actions he done.
This is a man that could of lived with hate.
Yet decided that's not his fate.
He was never ashamed of where he came from.
And knew what he was to become.
His love for children was immeasurable.
He didn't want to see them miserable.
A man so immensely humble.
He lead us by perfect example.
Your life is a testimony.
We honor your legacy.
As he lays his head to rest.
No one can argue he did his best.
Yes God has come to take an angle home.
Yet we don't stand alone.
He left us with so many beautiful memories.
We can pick them from our thoughts like berries.
Dear Madiba rest in peace.
We carry your dream forward with ease.

Dear Russell, I know you were profoundly shaped by Mandela. A spirited tribute yours is, coming from the heart of one who knows. Thank you for posting this!
I grew up in the sixties and didn't really much know of apartheid in SA then. We had much racial strife in our own land in America, obviously.
1918 was so long ago, there are volumes of remembrances yet to come from this great leader of humankind.
Love - beauty of the human soul that could ever begin transcendence... We all share your grief, as you give thanks for Mandela

A fine tribute to a very special man. Few have ever explemplified the human gift of forgiveness more than Nelson Mandela. Yes, he had that way with children, as though he was the father of them all, and in many ways that is just what he was: a father to the future of his country.
