It used to boom with kids
Under Dad and mom's healing care.
Don't lie, be kind to all.
God is each and every where.

The ole home place just sits there
In need of much care.
Memory's just keep flooding
To here from over there.

The yard is grown up but
I'm working slowly on fixing that.
It makes me sad to see it haunting me
It needs to be happy, full, free.

On Holidays family use to
Come many miles around.
We'd cook all night some times

Oh Emy..this brings back so many memories..how delightful and vintage of you!
Neglected houses are sad..I feel so sorry for them..after all the joy and laughter and generations they sheltered within..they surely deserve better!
I love this tribute. On behalf of all the forgotten little homes…THANK you! :)

Yes, yes, the house needs to be happy again.

I really liked this. It sorta kinda reminded me of my poem, Hello, I'm House

Woo yeah!

I really love the sentimental journey this poem took me on. I like how vividly you described this house, from the overgrown grass to all the heart-warming memories. Even more so, I like how you incorporated the morals of your family. I.e:

Don't lie, be kind to all.
God is each and every where.

Great job Emy.

It sounds like a beautiful place Emmy.
Full of memories and love.
Though it may be in need of TLC and time
No matter what the memories will always be in your heart and mind.

Wonderful piece!

Hey Emy, a fab piece of writing. An old home can evoke so many memories, you've done a great job of catching both the positive and negative swing of emotion those memories can bring with them.

Really makes me think of my nans house. There were a lot if good times had there.

Again, good job ;-)

Always have a soft spot for house poems. The doors open to more than just rooms.

I found myself wanting more...I wanted to go through the house, room by room and wanted to sit at the dinner table with family and friends. It just left me there standing in the yard feeling as shaggy as the lawn. Sad.
An inviting and delicate piece!
Thanks ever so much for the trip down memory lane!

Hi there Emy

Been some time. I trust you are well. Now this poem makes you guilty of taking me back to when I was a boy of just 3 ;-) let me tell you a bit about it. We lived in a government house wrongly issued to my father as a police constable back in 1970. It was a massive 5 bedroom house that was supposed to be given to a higher ranking officer none the less we got it. I can still remember the address 46 Custeel street Belgravia. Now this here poem of yours takes me back to that house and the time we had there as a family. Most family functions (birthday parties, weddings, funerals ext ext) were hold at this house. A big yard to play in tall very tall trees to climb some 60 to 70 feet high. Some of my most beautiful childhood memories are from this house. Thank you so much for this beautiful poem of yours that reminded me of that time. God bless

Greetings
Rus

Though it creates an tangible piece to look back on and reminisce. The true beauty of it are the memories that you get play like old tapes in your mind. That smile you get when you close your eyes and are carried back. Thank you for sharing
