Array ( [sid] => 17882 [catid] => 1 [aid] => Mick [title] => Sun-Shadow Mandala Poem [time] => 2003-05-20 23:35:00 [hometext] => I really enjoyed doing a Sun-Shadow Mandala Chart...in which you think of animals, colors, etc. that you think represent yourself. Anyway...this is my poem putting together all the different categories and words....making up a poem about myself! [bodytext] => I am exactly what I want to be.
I dream of being carefree,
Which is the deer in the calm forest.
Through the forest, I dream of a river:
Its apparent waters know the path it is taking, its future.
I walk a twisting path on a sky-blue night.
Blue is eternity, where things pass slowly,
As they fade away into the sun.

I want to reach a distant goal,
Like the ambitious vine that is
Growing high against the tall, stone wall.
The simplicity of the number one
Is the simplicity of life, of making the right decisions,
Of knowing a purpose, a reason to be alive.
I am small, but inside I want to know that I am small
Like the beautiful, shining diamond that is,
Despite its appearances, surprisingly strong.

I am not what I do not want to be.
The fiery eyes of the tiger, always waiting
To catch his prey, is the reflection
Of a wildfire that is taking the calm forest away.
The tiger is temporary, bright red. With his very strengh,
His very being made to fight in a complicated and surprising world;
Complicated as the number five, twisting, turning,
Taking up all the fingers in my one hand, taking up my life.
I do not want to be weak and content, a gold shrub, who is living for nothing.

But, I am not perfect like a round circle that had a center
Equidistant from each point.
I am an ellipse that wants
To be perfectly round like the circle, but instead, because
It tries, is imperfect.
I am who I am and what I think I want to be. [comments] => 3 [counter] => 2837 [topic] => 21 [informant] => starkindler [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 10 [ratings] => 2 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => Lifepoems )

Aw, good....first time I see some nature/life/religious poetry I can relate to as a Buddhist. Your verse eloquently describes a Buddhist's point of view of human life.
