to preach their good word
of a man who lives up in the sky

They smile and sing
And raise their hands up
with full trust, without ever asking "Why?"

They carry around their little black books
as a weapon to make them feel safe

And although half of them are dirty crooks
It's okay, because they're men of faith

It's an excuse to be hateful
while preaching about love
"We should all be grateful
for our father above"

And if you're not, you'll be out with a forceful shove
because if you have your own mind, you're not good enough
to be a part of this exclusive club

you must be a bad person
if you don't carry around the little black book
and try to shove it down the throats of others

If you follow facts instead of fiction
you must be a witch

So burn me at the stake, because I'm not buying this
Sorry, I don't believe in your God

But I do believe in being a good person for the right reasons and not because you're a spoiled puppy awaiting a treat for not making piddle on the floor. A brave choice of subject matter, given the religious fervour that exists in our world today.
My own view on this is let someone have the choice whether to believe or not.
It really is as simple as that.

beautiful expression of feeling, i must agree these people are annoying,
once they bothered me so bad i made a chalk outline of a body on the
sidewalk in front of my house and threw their pamphlets all around, they
quit coming; then i moved and here they come once again, a whole fresh
batch- this time i threatened to shoot them, i'm happy to say i'm not bothered anymore! lol,

hugs n' love nessa

I was first thinking from the title, "Little Black Books", that the poem was about keeping phone numbers of dames...just in case...
Dear Ario, I don't think you would ever catch flack for speaking your mind here at YPDC.
If religion is the club, where you got to what the club do, and then blindly turn your back on people in need, or criticize others for their way of live or mistakes, I too don't wish to join.

Sadly, religion seems to be problematic in that way too much of the time.
Dear Ariodissarray - you may be surprised to know that many feel the same as you do.
And I don't find that to be a bad thing at all!

In fact, you sound like a catholic priest I used to know..
Peace!
