A way to understand, remember, forget
Moments created around life's abject terror
Poems help me build a protective barrier

Painting memories within a circle of words
Clarifies each as to being actual or absurd
Poems enable me to take a mental step back
As I pile each upon their life's spirited stack

One can write of sunshine and butterflies
Ignoring truths that exist in front of our eyes
To me life's but a part of an ongoing dream
Even as it blends into tomorrows yet unseen

To tell one's tale in stanzas for all to read
Takes a soul's bravery of heart to succeed
It's more than a picturesque way to explore
Adventures fanning wind for the words to soar

Each poem rides freedom upon passionate wings
Even as it contains stories of conflicting things
In each word lies the beating of a weary heart

endearingly bits frail as
topics like why
mark some imaginary
justification
in some clouded
minds

poetic release
is a beautiful reason
got out of shell
for a time
Bukowski wrote down
the exact time in the morning
when he wrote
a city is a poem
maybe like you
answering just why

freedom is the minds
quotient of
the habit forming
or non-habit forming
ability to seek release
or paint contradictions
or soothe emotional
states of being

Simple is best
when it is in its
truest form

waiting in line
feeling blue
then sweet
release
coffee in hand
ten ounce cup
for me to drink

I say thank you

- for the poem
Peace!

My sentiments exactly!

That's why I write poetry - I love to write, but it's also an emotional release. It's relief.

Great write!

Having an outlet for the stresses and strains is a healthy thing in my opinion.
Poetry can purge the mind of pent up frustration, it can tell of joy, sadness, fear and all manner of emotions.
Maybe doctors should prescribe it instead of pills?

Nailed it. Awesome job, and so true. Some great lines in here, with rhyme and flow to match.
